Bettie Joann Gilstrap, 84, of Jacksonville passed away January 8, 2026. She was born July 9, 1941 to the late Maynard and Myrtle (Holland) Rhodes in Hickory Flat, Mississippi. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gilstrap; two grandchildren, Heather Baker and Peyton Fowler; one brother, Kenneth Rhodes; and one niece, Rachel Barrett.

Bettie was a devoted member of her church, where she took great pride in decorating for events. She was also a talented and skilled seamstress. One of her projects was her daughter, Sandy's, wedding dress! Earlier in her life, Bettie also put her sewing talents to work by creating mannequin clothing for the store TG&Y.

Bettie enjoyed her Friday nights going on outings with her church friends. These friendships brought her joy throughout her life.

Left to cherish Bettie's memory are her daughters, Deborah (George) Myrick, Shelia (Mat) Fowler, and Sandy (Allen) Chance; sister, Joyce Rhodes Barrett; grandchildren, Chris, Travis, Coe, Courtney, Curtis, Caterina, Leslie, Bailey, Vanda, and Randi; 15 great grandchildren; nephews, Justin and Brad; niece, Deanna, and her shih tzu, DJ.

Bettie will be remembered for her faith-filled life, loving spirit, creative hands, and steadfast devotion. She leaves behind family and friends who are grateful for the time they shared and will carry her memory on with love.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. the same morning. She will be interred at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery with her late husband.
