Cecil Monroe Junkin, 87, of Jacksonville went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 15, 2024. He was born March 19, 1937 in Merigold, Mississippi to the late Selma Lee and Hattie B. Tyson Junkin. Monroe, as family and friends called him, was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerold, Danny and John Junkin; two sisters, Sue Lewellen and Nellie Pace and one son, Johnny Junkin.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Mildred Junkin; three sons, Bobby Sherron and family, James "Jim" Junkin and family, Todd Sherron and family; one brother, Bobby Junkin and family; six grandchildren; one great grandchild and nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, his family was his pride and joy.

Two of his greatest accomplishments were his family and serving his nation for 23 years and eight months in the United States Air Force. Monroe, achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt), specializing in and retired as an Aerospace Control and Warning System Superintendent.

A few of his many awards and decorations were the Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Tour Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was a Lifetime member of the Air Force Association, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and supported many veterans' organizations.

The Family would like to thank the Arkansas State Veterans Home and the VA Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the outstanding care and compassion shown throughout his stay at both facilities.

Monroe had a special place in his heart for children and animals. In lieu of flowers, you can honor him by giving to the Jacksonville Animal Shelter, a shelter in your area or the Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Monroe's favorite saying and how he lived each day: "Things happen for a reason"!
