Darlene Avery, 82, of Jacksonville passed away March 22, 2025. She was born November 9, 1942 in Freemont, Michigan to the late George Henry Jones and Frances Marie Carter Jones. In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Avery; and siblings, Clare Towne, Edith Wortley, and baby Collin.

Darlene was a devoted wife and mother.  She traded her career when she married Gordon to become a military wife and after her children were born, a stay-at-home mother.

She worked outside the home at times as her children got older but being a wife and mother was her greatest joy.

She was proud to be a military wife and handled the separations of war and military moves with grace and without complaint (well mostly).

She was a proud supporter of her children as they entered scouts, dance, gymnastics, cheer and scholastic opportunities.  She made life-long friendships and was still in touch with both friends she made in high school and friends she made as a military wife.

She was a member of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed reading, painting, crochet and embroidery. She was a baseball and hockey fan.  She was the best mom and grandma to her pets and her children's pets.

Left to cherish Darlene's memory are her children, George Avery, Michele (David) Nigro, Kraig Avery, Russell (Deborah) Avery, Tim Stillson and six grandchildren, Cameron, Jennifer, Misty, Lacey, Ashley and Tim; several great grandchildren and niece, Leah (Steve) Cox and nephew David Wortley.

A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday March 27, 2025 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home 1504 N JP Wright Loop Rd. Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. Visitation will be the night before at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Darlene will be laid to rest with her late husband, Gordon Avery, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas following the funeral service.
