Obituary

David R. Wallies, 86, of Jacksonville passed away on August 12, 2023 at John L. McClellan's Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. He was born March 20, 1937 in Wynne, Arkansas to the late William Wallies and Gertie Mae Jones Allen. In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by siblings, Cecil Hall, Rosie Thomas, JW Wallies. As a child, his passion was playing High School basketball.

David joined the US Navy in March of 1956, served 20 years, and retired in September of 1975 as Aviation Boatswain's Mate-Fuels (ABFC) Chief Petty Officer.  Ultimately serving on USS Thetis CVAH-11 and USS Hornet CVS-12.  He was an avid golfer, playing regularly at Deer Run Golf Course, on LRAFB. David is a veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned several medals and citations, including National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal, Presidential Unit Citation, and more. He also participated in the recovery of Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 space capsules in 1969 while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet CVS-12.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Addis Wallies; children, Ramona Wallies (Bob) Baumeister, Debra Wallies (Mike) Swaim, David Edward (Sharon -dec) Wallies, and Charles Ray (Peggy) Wallies; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2023 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Visitation will be an hour prior, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Arrangements by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
