Dewitt Curry, 91, passed away January 9, 2024. He was born October 21, 1932 in Winona, Mississippi to the late Buford and Thelma (Smith) Curry.

He led a fulfilling life as an Air Force veteran of 28 years. He had a strong commitment to his country, which led to experiences that allowed him to travel the world.

He was an avid reader, particularly enjoying the subjects of math, history, and religion. He was often described as a great friend and mentor, always having a positive impact on those around him, and ready for a good debate.

Along with his parents, Dewitt is preceded by his wife, Carrie Curry; siblings, Harvester Curry, Sr., Calvin Curry, Sr., Frank Curry, Oliver Wendell Curry, Buford Curry, Jr., and Willie G. Stansberry, and Catherine Curry Fleming.

Those left to cherish his memories include his children, Barbara (Albert) Quinlan, Tina Quinlan, Fanchette (and her late husband, Calvin) Vickers, Felicia Vickers-Pippins, Alda (Emerson) Stamps, Shirley, (Oziea, Sr.) Wallace, Leomar (Myrtis) Herrod, and acted as a father figure to his nephew, Darrel Saunders and late sister Danetta Saunders; grandchildren, Tina, Lester, Felicia, Robert, Emerson III, David, Angela, Leigha, Danielle, and Oziea, Jr., Shandra, Terry, and Rodney; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beulah Curry-Ford and Thelma Curry-Peeples; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Visitation will be the evening prior to the service, Friday, February 9, 2024, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Dewitt will be laid to rest with military honors following the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Park."
