Edward "Son" Green, age 83 of Jacksonville, Arkansas passed away on February 24,2026. He was born in Greenbrier, Arkansas on August 30, 1942 to Edgar and Janie Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two sisters, Freda Southerland and Shirley Carr. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Edward proudly served in the United States Army and fought for his country in Vietnam, where he received a Commendation Medal for his performance and bravery on the battlefield.
After returning home, he worked as a truck driver before beginning a job with the Arkansas Gazette, which later became the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. For many years, he worked seven days a week delivering newspapers to carriers across the state of Arkansas. He rarely missed a day due to illness, never took a vacation, and remained dedicated to his work until his retirement.
Edward had a deep love for the land and took great pride in growing his own food, planting a large garden each year. He found his greatest joy on his John Deere tractor, plowing the fields and tending to his crops.
There will be a visitation from 1:00-2:00 PM on Monday, March 2 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home, 1504 N JP Wright Loop Road, Jacksonville, Arkansas. Reverend Mike Swearengin will conduct a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Memorial Park at the same address.
