George Earl Olah, age 89, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, passed away on April 3, 2026.

Born on April 3, 1937, in Akron, Ohio, George was the son of Hilda Ritter Olah and James Olah. As a young man, he began his military service in the United States Army, including time stationed in West Germany, where he met Ingeborg Hattendorf, whom he later married. Together they had two sons, Raymond and Glenn.

After his Army service, George joined the United States Air Force, where he served for approximately 26 years. He was a Vietnam veteran and served as a flight engineer aboard C-130 cargo aircraft. During his Air Force career, he was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, Hahn Air Base in Germany, Dyess Air Force Base in Texas, Forbes Air Force Base in Kansas, and Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, George worked briefly as a flight mechanic for Lockheed in Saudi Arabia and later as a motorcycle mechanic for Suzuki in Abilene, Texas. In the early 1980s, he settled in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where he remained for the rest of his life.

George enjoyed a life of independence and hands-on pursuits. He was an avid fisherman who spent many happy hours on Arkansas lakes in his boat, enjoying the sport he loved. He took pride in tinkering with his classic Oldsmobile and his fishing boat, enjoyed classic country music, and had a deep interest in military history. Throughout much of his life, he was accompanied by a loyal German Shepherd, a constant and valued companion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hilda Olah; wife, Ingeborg "Inge" Olah; and sister, Betty Mosser.

He is survived by his sons, Raymond Olah and his wife, Pat, and Glenn Olah and his wife, Elaine; grandchildren, Kristyana and Alexander; brother, Jimmy Olah; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members in the Akron, Ohio area. He is also survived by his close friends, John Lynch and his wife, Dana, and Royce Johnson.

George will be remembered for his military service, his mechanical skill, his love of the outdoors, and the independent life he built for himself.

A graveside service with military honors will be at 12:00p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1504 W Maryland Ave, Sherwood, Arkansas. A gathering of family and friends will take place at Jacksonville VFW immediately following the burial service.
