Joan Mistler, 78, of Jacksonville passed away September 9, 2023. She was born July 7, 1945 in Queens, New York to the late Werner Julius and Beatrice (Simmons) Stegemann. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Mistler; daughters, Janice Hamilton and Eliana Mistler Wishnevky; and sisters, Joyce Harlow and Carol Fagone.

Joan enjoyed taking walks, puzzles, painting ceramics, and crocheting. She put her crochet skills to good use during the years she spent working at Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville, where she would make shawls for those in need. She also spent many years at Warren Dupree Elementary, where she spent time as a substitute teacher, custodian, and even a lunch server.

Those left to cherish Joan's memory include her children, Daniel Mistler, Jason (Lisa) Nelson, Jeffrey (Rachel) Nelson, James Nelson, and Tina (Anthony) Bennett; sisters, Patricia Stegemann and Judith Rogers; 14 grandchildren; as well as 18 great-grandchildren.
