Obituary

Johnnie Shavers, 72, of North Little Rock, passed away on December 15, 2022. He was born on October 24, 1950 to parents Johnny Shavers and Samantha Merriweather Shavers between Keo and Scott, Arkansas. In addition to his parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by three sisters.

As a youth, he lived and worked on the farm. He attended Nelson Elementary School and later graduated from Scott High School. His very first job was at the ICE House on the east side of Little Rock, where he worked until moving on to Russell Chevrolet. Afterwards, he worked at Great Plains Bag Company, which later became Stone Container Company, from 1973 until 2008. During his career, Johnnie worked as a heavy equipment operator and union leader. He loved to fish, take long drives, as well as garden. He gave his life to Christ in 1977 at Carlisle's Revelation Church of God in Christ, under Pastor Terrell Young. It was also the year he became a father to his beloved daughter, Sharonda Kay. He spent the last three years of his life happily gardening.

Those left to cherish Johnnie's memory include his loving wife, Marilyn Friebel-Shavers; daughter, Sharonda Kay; sister, Joann (William) Jackson, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Rest Hills Memorial Park in Sherwood. Visitation will be the afternoon prior, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
