Katherine Merle Holland Garrett Coates, 87, was born September 6, 1938 to the late John Richard Holland and Effie Bell Standiford Holland in Batesville, Arkansas. She departed this life on January 9, 2026. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Holland Wood and Nancy Ann Holland (infant); and brothers, John Harvey Holland, William (Billy) Holland, James (Jimmy) Holland, and Thomas (Tommy) Holland (infant).

Katherine grew up in the Little Rock / Jacksonville area where she and her family settled. Katherine (Merle) loved food and enjoyed cooking. She especially loved trying new recipes. Some of the dishes didn't always turn out as planned but she loved it just the same. She also enjoyed spending time with family, who she loved fiercely, and friends.

Katherine is survived by her daughter, Debra (Derek) Rieathbaum of Cabot, Arkansas; Two precious grandsons, whom she worshipped, Greg (Brandy) Cathey of Austin, Arkansas and Tyler Rieathbaum of Ward, Arkansas; a great grandson, Spencer (Liz) Dozier; one very precious great great granddaughter, Willow Dozier; one brother, Bobby (Sharon) Holland of Cabot, Arkansas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
