Larry "Papa Dunk" Duncan, 73, of Jacksonville passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at his home after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born August 8, 1950 in Andalusia, Alabama to the late Walter Cecil and Helen Ruth (Bergins) Duncan. Larry was a graduate of Memphis State University with a master's degree in civil engineering. He served his country in the United States Army and Air Force for more than twenty years. After retirement from the armed forces, Larry spent many years working to help small and large communities alike to establish water systems, a calling that took him around the state, country, and world. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing tennis, pickle ball and golf. Larry was a loving father and grandfather, always making time to attend sporting events or extracurricular activities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cecilia Greenlee.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Angela Bunce (Courtney Anderson) of North Little Rock, Larry Duncan of Jacksonville, and Jeannie Goree of Greenbrier; grandchildren, Ryan (Allison) Bunce of Heber Springs, Maegan Thompson of Cabot, Christopher and Mariah Duncan both of Cabot, Debra Ruth, and Duncan Barnhart, both of Greenbrier. Other survivors include great-grandchildren, Evan and Hunter Bunce, and James "Jamie" Thompson; siblings, Terry (Janet) Duncan and Cecil (Teresa) Duncan both of Florida; former wife, Debra (Rusty) Stephens of Cabot; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dearly loved friends.

A time of visitation will take place from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. At Larry's request, no formal funeral services will take place. He will be cremated, and his remains spread in the ocean along with his sister, Cecilia. Memorial donations in Larry's memory may be made to CARTI Cancer Center , (8901 Carti Way, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205) or a charitable organization of one's choosing.
