Michael John Martello, 76, of Jacksonville, Arkansas left his earthly home on August 28, 2026 to greet his Savior with open arms. He was born on September 29, 1949 in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late John and Joyce Martello. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Martello; children, Jeff Martello of Pearland, Texas, Katie Martello of Glendale, Kentucky, and the mother of his children, Karla Martello of Nicholasville, Kentucky; daughter, Susan (Derek) Schubert of Cabot, Arkansas; granddaughters , Adrianna and Jordan; brothers, Kevin (Lois) Martello of Haughton, Louisiana and Jay Martello of Zephyrhills, Florida; two nieces; a host of family, friends and his beloved dogs, Duchess, Princess, and Sapphire. 

Michael was an avid collector of toy soldiers, a passion that began even before he was born. His father purchased him a Lionel train set in anticipation of his arrival, beginning what would become a lifelong love of collecting. Over the years, Michael enjoyed attending toy soldier shows three times a year, traveling to different states to share in his hobby and connect with fellow collectors.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years. Throughout much of his military career, he flew C-130 aircraft. His distinguished service came to an end on October 31, 1994, when he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In August 1994, Michael began his second career in transportation, joining the Pulaski County Special School District as Assistant Director of Transportation, a position he held for five years. He later became the Director of Transportation for the Little Rock School District. After a total of 23 years serving in the transportation department, Michael retired on June 30, 2016.

Retirement gave Michael the opportunity to pursue another passion—traveling and cruising. What began as an enjoyment soon became something of an obsession, and since retiring, Michael embarked on an incredible 30 cruises, making memories and exploring destinations around the world.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home, 1504 N JP Wright Loop Road, Jacksonville, Arkansas. Burial with full military honors will be promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W Maryland Ave, North Little Rock, Arkansas.
