Mabel Eutha Bankston of Marion, formerly of Jacksonville, passed away on October 27, 2026 at the age of 106. She was born July 21, 1920 in Yeager, Oklahoma to the late Lessie and Lon White. She grew up in nearby Holdenville.
Eutha married C.R. Bankston in 1938, at the age of 18. While C.R. was overseas serving in World War II, she lived and worked as a telephone operator in her hometown. After the war, C.R. made a career in the Air Force, and for the next 26 years, Eutha lived in various locations across the country. As an Air Force wife, she volunteered with many organizations, though her favorite role was always that of a stay-at-home mother.
After C.R. retired in 1965, they settled in Jacksonville, Arkansas. There, she was an active member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed playing bridge and china painting.
As her health declined, Eutha moved to be closer to her daughter, living first in Forrest City, then Jonesboro, and finally Marion, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.R. Bankston; parents; and siblings, Alma Venus, Lorene Hughey, and Quentin White.
Family members who survive her include son, Bob (Marie) Bankston of Niwot, Colorado and daughter, Char (John) Griffee of Marion; four grandchildren, Dr. Samantha (Magnus) Bankston, Dr. Susan (Mark) Griffee Belcher, Hanna Bankston, and John (Christie) Griffee IV; and four great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday November 2, 2026 at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour before, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Eutha will be laid to rest with her husband, C.R., at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
