Mack
McAlister
Jul 12, 1948 — Sep 6, 2026
Jacksonville, Arkansas
Mack McAlister, age 78, of Jacksonville, went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 12, 1948, in Blytheville, Arkansas, to the late Leslie and Juanita McAlister. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Jerry McAlister, and his infant son, Christopher McAlister.
Mack was an outstanding athlete from an early age. During his high school years, he was named All-State in basketball at Jonesboro High School, an accomplishment that reflected both his natural talent and dedication to the game. He went on to play basketball for the University of Arkansas, where he was a letterman from 1966 to 1970.
While his accomplishments extended well beyond the basketball court, Mack carried that same drive and determination into his professional life. He spent many years as a CPA in Jacksonville and embraced his entrepreneurial spirit through several business ventures over the years, including owning Mack’s Fish House in Heber Springs. He also served as President of the Pulaski County School Board, always finding ways to use his time, talents, and leadership to give back to his community.
Above all else, Mack’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church, where he raised his family and formed lifelong friendships. He was also a faithful, loving, and selfless husband of 50 years. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for his family and was always willing to extend that same generosity and care to others in need. His love for his family, his willingness to serve others, and his unwavering faith in the Lord guided him through every season of life.
His favorite Scripture was Psalm 91:1-2:
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”
These words were more than Scripture to Mack, they reflected the faith by which he lived his life and the hope with which he now rests in the presence of his Lord.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Catalina) McMackins, Lance (Melissa) McAlister, David (Dina) McMackins, and Matthew (Alicia) McAlister; grandchildren, David Jr., Michael Jr., Skylar, and Ainsley; and the many others who looked to him as a father figure, mentor, and role model. He also leaves behind a large circle of friends who take comfort in knowing that this is not goodbye, but only a temporary separation until they are reunited in Heaven.
A funeral service will be officiated by Bro. David O’Dell at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Second Baptist Church, 1117 N. James Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas. A gathering to celebrate Mack’s life will be held prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
The family welcomes flowers or, in Mack’s memory, invites you to make a donation to a charity that is meaningful to you.
