Maurus Jones, 81, of Jacksonville passed away December 17, 2023. He was born March 1, 1942 in Little Rock to the late Thomas Jefferson and Gloria May (Krah) Jones. Maurus retired as a conductor from a dedicated career with the Union Pacific Railroad. In his spare time, Maurus could be found smoking a cigar and drinking a scotch, while watching live (or rerun) football games, especially his favorite team, the New England Patriots. He was an avid backyard squirrel hunter and loved bird watching. He and his wife, Judith, enjoyed spending time with their great-grandchildren and going to the beaches in Destin, Florida for vacations.

Those left to cherish the memories of Maurus include his wife, Judith Ann Jones; children, James (Stase) Jones, Marlo Brandon, Kellie (Mike) Kent, and Philip (Lisa) Jarry; grandchildren, Justin Jones, Kaitlyn Jones, Marli Brandon, Max Brandon, Nikole (Scott) Rowe, and Hunter Jarry; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Garrett, and Wyatt Rowe; as well as several extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.

A memorial gathering will be 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
