Richard E. May, 82, of Jacksonville passed away August 29, 2026. He was born July 16, 1944 in Frederick, Maryland to the late Paul and Marguerite (Ecker) May. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Paul May, Arthur May, and Gloria “Sue” Oaks.

Richard loved sports. He played softball for many years in Maryland and Arkansas. He was an avid golfer and won many tournaments. He was also in a bowling league. Richard worked as a Plant Supervisor for Club Products in Maryland and Arkansas for over 20 years and later for Kohler for 28 years until his retirement. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville for 24 years until he transferred his membership to Brockington Church of the Nazarene in Sherwood. Above everything else, the highlight of his life was his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them the most.

Left to cherish Richard’s memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia May; children, Teresa (Bob) LaFort and Richard (Deanna) May, Jr.; three grandchildren, Chris (fiancé, Krystal) McPheeters, Taylor (Kaci) May, and Landon (his girlfriend, Selena) May; four great grandchildren, Gabriella McPheeters, Everleigh McPheeters, Cooper May, and Piper Grace May; siblings, Robert (Ruth) May, Nancy May Baker, Gene (Diane) May, and Byron May; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Visitation will be the night before, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Richard will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
