Robert Alan Smith, age 60, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on July 11, 1966.

To his family and friends, he was simply known as Alan. He would often remind people, with a smile, “Robert is my Dad’s name.” Alan was the son of Sandra Smith Robbins and Robert L. Smith.

Alan is survived by his mother, Sandra Smith Robbins; his son, Benjamin Jacob Smith; mother Teresa Hallum Smith; siblings, Rhonda (Tim) Harrawood, Sherri Smith, and Brian (Evie) Smith; two nieces; three nephews; two great-nephews; and one great-niece; along with many extended family members and friends who loved him.

Alan spent 39 years as a truck driver. Throughout his career, he drove for several companies, but he always spoke fondly of his time working for Anderson’s in Lonoke.

If there was one place where Alan truly felt at home, it was outdoors. He loved the woods, nature, hunting, and fishing. As a teenager, he would go coon hunting with his Grandpa Olan and rabbit hunting with his dad. As the years went by, he became an accomplished and passionate bow hunter. The outdoors was more than a hobby to Alan—it was a part of who he was.

One of Alan’s greatest joys was sharing his love of the outdoors with his son, Benjamin Jacob Smith. Those hunting and fishing trips created memories that will remain with him and the family for years to come.

Alan also had a playful side. He loved to joke around, and if Alan teased you, there was a good chance it meant he liked you. His humor and personality brought laughter to those around him, and those memories will be treasured.

In 2016, Alan gave his life to the Lord at Lonoke Assembly of God. His faith is an important part of his story and brings comfort and hope to his family, knowing that this goodbye is not forever. They hold onto the promise that they will see him again.

Scripture speaks of living water and the life it brings. Ezekiel 47:9 says:

“Every living creature that swarms will live wherever the river flows… Since the water will become fresh, there will be life everywhere the river goes.”

And in John 7:38, Jesus says:

“The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.”

Just as water is essential to physical life, Jesus’ living water is the essence of spiritual life. Alan’s family finds comfort in knowing that through his faith, he has found that living water and is now in a better place.

Perhaps it is fitting that someone who loved the woods, the water, the quiet mornings, and the thrill of the hunt would leave behind these words:

Remember the smiles and not the tears For all the hunts throughout the years Don’t dwell on things left unsaid Cherish the memories we had instead.

Like the crisp mornings and dusky nights A trophy buck within our sights Deer camp with friends and family These moments meant so much to me.

When peace from nature all around Was shattered by a sudden sound I always hoped your aim was true And smiled with pride for all of you.

So don’t cry for me because life is done Stalking the fields has just begun Come fall may smiles adorn your face Knowing I’ve gone hunting… in a better place.

Alan’s life will be remembered through the stories, laughter, lessons, hunts, fishing trips, and countless memories he leaves behind. His family will carry his love of the outdoors, his sense of humor, and the memories of the man they knew and loved.
