Obituary

Shawn Eric Hilburn, 47, of Lonoke, passed away August 21, 2020.  He was born October 7, 1972 in Orlando, Florida to the late Wetoka Schmidt and Gary Hilburn.

In addition to his parents, Shawn was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Hilburn. He is survived by his sister, Wakita Kanazeh; stepfather, James (Susie) Schmidt; nieces, Philicia, Reichelle and Ashlyn as well as, his nephews, Phillip Edward and Mekhi.

Growing up, Shawn was his big brother's partner in crime. The two of them often pushed the limits of their mother's patience with bright ideas, like having bottle rocket wars inside the house while their mother was out.

In the summer of 1987, Shawn became a big brother to his little sister, Wakita, who he loved and protected. Despite their age gapm Shawn never missed an opportunity to connect with his little sister. He frequently spent his Saturdays riding four-wheelers or jumping on the trampoline for hours with her and his nieces. Even after Wakita moved away, he made it a point to spend time with her whenever she came into town because he truly cherished their bond.

Throughout his adult life Shawn worked extremely hard and without effort made a lasting impression with those he encountered. Shawn would use his wit and sense of humor to break any awkward silence so you couldn't help but open up to him; paired with his contagious, unique laugh you couldn't refrain from laughing with him. Shawn went above and beyond to be there for anyone who needed him. He made a point to be in his nieces' and nephews' lives. Whether it be to listen to their problems, lecture them through life problems, or even just to help fix their car. He always showed up when it mattered most. He was dedicated to loving everyone and is truly missed.
