Stephen Vonn Mayfield, 92, devoted husband, loving father, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 22, 2025.  He was retired, both from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and the Pulaski County Special School District maintenance custodian. Stephen lived a life of honor, dedication, and deep love for his family.

He was born June 4, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to Clarence Mayfield and Elizabeth Collins, and was raised in San Diego, California by his mother. He then joined the USAF in 1951, retiring in 1971 in Warsaw, North Pulaski County, Arkansas.  Stephen spent most of his life in the community he cherished, where he was of the Baptist faith and a lifetime member of VFW Post 4548. For 66 years, he was the beloved husband of Patricia Mayfield, his steadfast partner in life. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and the pitter-patter of their loyal dog, Pepper, who was always by their side.

Stephen was a loving father to his five children, Jimmy (Joanne) Mayfield, Connie Jellison, Julie Adair, Stephen Mayfield, Jr., and Charles (Holly) Mayfield. His legacy continued to grow through his grandchildren, Daniel (Sara) Adair, Amanda (Blake) Lewis, Jared Mayfield, Lucas Mayfield, and Benjamin Mayfield; and his great-grandchildren, Matthew Adair, Thurman Lewis, Parker Mayfield, Samuel Adair, Forest Adair, Mona Adair, and Nora Adair. His wisdom, kindness, and gentle spirit will live on in each of them.

Stephen was a man of quiet strength, his favorite quote was, "Never underestimate the power of an old man".  Stephen served his country with pride before returning to the simple joys of family, home, and the natural beauty of Bayou Meto. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever remain a blessing.

There will be a funeral service at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home, 1504 N JP Wright Loop Road, Jacksonville, Arkansas, with burial to follow at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. There will be visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00AM at the funeral home.

The family requests donations be made in Stephens honor to the Little Rock Compassion Center.
