Twyla Norene Steward (Cole) Meadows, 85, passed away January 29, 2021. She was born February 3, 1935 to the late Johnie Frasier and Elsie Clarice (Pankey) Steward in Pangburn, Arkansas. In addition to her parents, Twyla was preceded in death by her brother, Johnie Franklin Steward.
Twyla will be lovingly missed as the matriarch of a five-generation family. She had an outgoing personality and made friends easily. In school, Twyla was an incredible scholar and athlete. She excelled in basketball, softball and track. Her active, athletic lifestyle continued as an adult. She loved fishing, bowling, dancing and gardening. She was so good at bowling, she competed in national competitions.
Twyla had a selfless, servant's heart which led to a variety of jobs in her lifetime. She was proud to have served Air Force personnel and their families at the Offutt and Little Rock Air Force Bases. She worked as a realtor for a few years and was very supportive of her husband's real estate career. She loved to cook and cater to her family and friends. Her last and favorite job was as catering manager at LRAFB.
Twyla is survived by her husband and soulmate, Prosper "Jack" Meadows; daughter, Cathy (Charles) Ward; son, Monty (Karen) Cole; two stepchildren, Darryl (Della) Meadows and Pamela Meadows; grandchildren, Shane (Candy) Grandjean, and Shawna (Ricky) Hollingshead; step-grandchildren, McKenzie (Steven) Johnson, Joshua (Hallie) Phillips, Christian (Brittany) Canales, and Michael and Steven Bailey; great-grandchildren, Jordan (Madison) Hollingshead, Karissa (Josh) Ward, and Savannah Grandjean; and five great-great grandchildren, Avery, Audrey, and Nash Hollingshead, and Elliette and Callen Ward.
A memorial gathering in Twyla's honor will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
