Verna L. Boggan, a long-time resident of Jacksonville, Arkansas, died September 13, 2023, at the age of 99. Verna was born September 23, 1923, the eldest of six children, on a farm in the idyllic rolling hills near Perryville, Missouri, to the late Heinrich and Hedwig (Oster) Bachmann. In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Boggan (USAF Ret.); brother, Hubert Bachmann; sister, Helen Dickmann; brothers-in-law, Eldor Hadler and Burnell Dickmann; sisters-in-law, Jean, Alice, and Mamie Bachmann; and sons-in-law, Larry Brown and Steve Moore.

Bob and Verna met at Emerson Electric in St. Louis and were married for fifty-four years until his death in 2001. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Crosstown, Missouri, and enjoyed a three month honeymoon. Verna loved being an "Air Force wife", which gave her the opportunity to travel. One of her favorite places to live was Okinawa, Japan where she, Bob and their children spent two years. The Boggan family also moved throughout the United States depending on where Bob was stationed at the time, including South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, and New Jersey, as well as Washington, D.C. After Bob's retirement, the two of them enjoyed going camping with friends and were proud members of The Good Sam Club.

Verna was active in her church and her community. She enjoyed the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for many years.  She and Bob enjoyed being a part of the Retired Military Association and going to Little Rock AFB for dinner and dancing. In her later years, she volunteered many hours at the Senior Center in Jacksonville. She was a past president of the Jacksonville AARP, and a member of the LRAFB bowling league, ARMETS, and the Extension Homemakers.

Verna is survived by five children, Karilyn Brown of Sherwood, Dwayne Boggan of Little Rock, Joyce Moore of Jacksonville, Patricia Phillips (Jim) of Little Rock, and Erin Foster (Wayne) of Pine Bluff; sisters, Aileen Hadler of Cleveland, Ohio, and Betty Bischoff of St.Louis, Missouri; brother, Oliver Bachmann of Perryville; five grandchildren, William Peterson of High Springs, Florida, Bill Moore (Erin) of Dover, Arkansas, Amanda Engelmeyer (Scott) of  Yorktown, Virginia, Arthur Phillips (Catherine) of Little Rock, Henry Phillips (Sarah Novak) of Austin, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Alaina, Sammye (Blaine), Halle, Aubrey, Julia, Abby, and Juniper; one great-great-grandchild, Ellianna; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Hope Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Committal service will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Park after the service. A light lunch will be offered at the church following the committal.
