Vernon Ray Hall, 91, of Cabot passed away January 17, 2024. He was born November 9, 1932 in Jacksonville, Arkansas to the late Ivy Hall and Leora (Henley) Hall LaValley. In addition to his parents, Vernon was welcomed into Heaven by his sister Ila Mae Hall and his first wife, Gloria Smart Hall.
At a young age, Vernon learned to fly planes. Unfortunately, he lost sight in one eye at age 17 and was no longer able to fly due to the inability to land. Vernon was a music lover. He built his own guitar and was very talented on playing the steel guitar.
Vernon worked in his father's garage from a young age. In 1954, he moved to Longview, Texas, where he attended a technical institute for mechanics. Moving back to Jacksonville, Arkansas in 1969 Vernon opened and operated "Vernon's Auto Service, Inc." as a master mechanic until 2011 when he retired at age 79.
Vernon loved woodworking. He built his own log house inside and out, including much of the furniture and decor.
Vernon was a member of the "Old Arkansas Fogey Squadron." He built and flew his own remote-control airplanes. He was also a member of the "Woodworkers Association of Arkansas" where he was featured in some of their magazines. He also made vases, bowls, pens, children's toys, models, etc. from wood. Vernon was also a 50+ year member of the "Eastern Star," the "Jacinto Lodge" serving as past master in 1986, and numerous other organizations. Vernon was also a member of the "Bayou Meto Breakfast Club" with his best friend Pete Fortson. They met the rest of their friends every Wednesday morning at First Street Cafe.
Vernon loved to make homemade ice cream to share with his beloved family and friends.
Those left to cherish the memories of Vernon include his beloved wife, Patsy Buchanan Hall; children, April Hall Hackett, Rebecca Buchanan Holley, Ricky (Angie) Buchanan, Robin Buchanan; grandchildren, Morgan Hackett, Michael Hackett, Zack Grantham, Crystal (Zach) Cardinal, Shawna Dixon; great-grandchildren, Sabryn, Jayden and Braxton Cardinal, Malcolm Cobb, Kylee Jo Dixon; brother, Billy Hall; the Bill Smart family; and extended family and friends.
Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday March 9, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
