The family of Virginia Horton sadly announces her passing on April 3, 2023.

Virginia Ruth Horton was born January 24, 1939, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Nola Sterling (nee Lowrey) and Carl Eugene Busby. Virginia was an unfortunate victim of the Great Depression like others of her generation. While her parents struggled financially, she and her older brother were placed in care of her maternal grandmother. Due to her grandmother's unforeseen illness, her grandmother sought the assistance of her friends, a Mayhan family in Newark, Arkansas, to assist with Virginia's care.  When Virginia's mother returned from California for her, the authorities in Newark would not let her return to her mother. Although not formally adopted, she graduated from Newark High School as Virginia Mayhan in 1957.

Later that same year she married Bobby Chinn. Before moving to Jacksonville, Arkansas, their marriage produced one son, Roger.

After the dissolution of their marriage, she married Ray Horton. His work enabled them to move to: Tyler, Texas, Jonesboro, Arkansas, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Gallup, New Mexico, Scottsdale, Arizona, and eventually retiring to North Little Rock.

Virginia worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for OTASCO, retiring after 25 years. She also worked for Dillard's, American Airlines, and for an accounting firm in NM. While Virginia was working, she enjoyed wearing Kasper suits, Bandolino heels and beautiful perfume.

When Virginia was younger, she was in a constant state of motion. Her son remembers her moving furniture from one room to another by herself while he was at school. She enjoyed being in the sun; either riding in a convertible or mowing her lawn, the color purple, countless hours of playing with her poodles, dancing and listening to Elvis.

Later in her life she enjoyed watching sports, mostly football and golf. She also liked to watch Walker, Texas Ranger and westerns; her favorites were Bonanza and Gunsmoke.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nola; father Carl; brother, Roger Busby; stepfather, Odell Hays; and half-brother, Randy Hays. She is survived by her son, Roger (Janis) Chinn; granddaughter, Tiffany (Frank) Ferez; and great grandson, Lucas Ferez.

The family would like to thank the staff at Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation for their wonderful care, especially during the height of the covid pandemic, and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their compassion.

The family suggests donating in Virginia's memory to the American Red Cross, an animal shelter near you, or a charity of your choosing.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023  at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
