The matriarch of our family, Virginia Lea Reed, 98, of Jacksonville, Arkansas entered peacefully into the Gates of Heaven on December 31, 2023. She was born December 31, 1925 in Princeton, Arkansas.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Reed, and son-in-law, Flinn Echols. Left to cherish her memories are daughters Risa (Billy) Briggs, Dayna Echols, Rebecca Reed Barr, and son Lonnie Franklin "Frankie" Reed.

She is survived by 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her Grandmommy, a.k.a. GM. Many nieces and nephews, who brought joy to her life too, as well.

Virginia was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church for over 75 years, where she was involved in the Prime Time Christians class. She was known for wearing bright colored clothing with accessories to match and was an avid seamstress.

Virginia was with the Pulaski County Special School District for 37 years where she taught third grade at Warren Dupree Elementary until her retirement in 1983. She valued the importance of teaching children how to read, to write in cursive, as well as the importance of knowing their multiplication facts. She wanted children to be lifelong learners and value their education.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Frankie, and numerous friends. She was actively involved in several organizations such as Teacher Retirement, Young at Heart, Red Hatters, Bunko, and even found the time for aerobics.

She actively participated in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). She had a heart for studying "The Word", even when her eyesight was failing. She managed to do the lessons through audio tapes and the use of a magnifying glass.

Some of the fondest memories were the large gatherings in her home where she prepared our favorite dishes. The apple of her eye was her son, Frankie. They spent hours watching Elvis movies and listening to his music. He was "The King" in mother's eyes.

Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Seeds of Love, (Crystal Barnett) in Greenbrier, Gentiva Hospice in Conway, and other dedicated employees. They are truly "angels"!
